Samir Parker
Urban Artist and Design Educator
Samir Parker has worked with institutions and communities responding to how we construct, populate, and transform the diverse spaces we inhabit. He has developed projects with design students and the urban youth that represent their identity, expand outlooks, and build individual and collective capacities to affirm a sense of citizenship through shared inventiveness.
An alumnus of CEPT University, Ahmedabad, he has produced artworks and designed installations, exhibitions, and publications for the Kala Ghoda Art Festival, the London School of Economics, UNICEF, the Venice Biennale, and the Shanghai Biennale. He has been awarded fellowships by the Sarai Centre for the Study of Developing Societies and Khoj International Artist Studios, New Delhi, and completed residencies at the Fonderie Darling in Montreal(supported by the INLAKS Shivdasani Foundation) and the Bellagio Center in Italy(funded by the Rockefeller Foundation).
As a design educator, Samir has led the Field Studio for the CEPT Foundation Program, facilitated the pilot project Art in Transit with the Namma Metro in Bengaluru, and set up the pioneering Undergraduate Skill-Based Vocational Program at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bengaluru.
